Multi-Room Audio

Multi-room audio installation for Sydney homes.

Fidelity Systems designs and installs multi-room audio across Sydney, from Sonos in a few rooms of an existing home to a centralised whole-home system in a new build. Every room can play its own music, or the whole house can play together, all from one app.

A multi-zone audio system playing music throughout an open-plan indoor and outdoor living space

Music in every room, your way.

Turn the music up in the kitchen while it stays low in the study. Group the living room, dining and deck when friends are over. Or play the same song through the whole house. There are two main ways to get there, and the right one depends on your home.

Two Approaches

Sonos or a centralised system.

Sonos

A Sonos speaker or Amp in each room, each streaming over your network.

  • Suits existing homes, with little or no building work
  • Start with a room or two and add more over time
  • Ideal for TV audio, with a soundbar or Amp at the TV
  • Spotify, Apple Music, AirPlay and more, built in

A centralised system

Triad power amplifiers and audio matrices in a comms rack, wired out to architectural speakers in every room.

  • Planned into a new build or renovation
  • Best suited to larger homes, usually more than six zones
  • No equipment in the rooms, only speakers in the ceilings and walls
  • Works hand in hand with Control4, so music becomes part of your scenes

Which suits your home?

For most homes, Sonos is the answer. These are the questions that decide when a centralised system makes more sense.

Is it a new build or renovation?

Sonos

Works in any home, and is the natural choice in an existing one.

Centralised

Only practical when walls and ceilings are open for cabling.

How many zones?

Sonos

Ideal for a handful of rooms, and easy to add to.

Centralised

Worth considering once you're past about six zones.

Will there be a larger control system?

Sonos

Controlled from the Sonos app, and can integrate with Control4.

Centralised

The natural partner for Control4, with music in scenes alongside lighting, blinds and climate.

Will zones play TV audio?

Sonos

Usually the better choice, with a soundbar or Amp at the TV.

Centralised

Possible, but TV audio is generally better handled by Sonos.

How do you listen to music?

Sonos

Spotify, Apple Music, AirPlay and most streaming services work natively.

Centralised

Most services are supported, but some, such as Apple Music, may need extra setup or a subscription.

The two can be mixed, but we generally recommend choosing one approach for the whole home, so every room works the same way.

Building or renovating? Plan your audio now.

The best time to plan whole-home audio is before the walls and ceilings are closed. Speaker cabling, and space for a comms rack, are simple to allow for at the start and difficult to add later.

Even if you're not ready to install every zone, we can plan the cabling now so you can add rooms whenever you like.

We're here if anything changes, or when you want to add another zone.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose Sonos or a centralised system?

For most homes, and almost always in an existing home, Sonos is the better fit. A centralised system is worth considering in a new build or renovation with a lot of zones, usually more than six, especially if you're also planning a control system such as Control4.

Can I add multi-room audio to an existing home?

Yes. Sonos is ideal for existing homes, since many products are wireless and ceiling speakers can be retrofitted neatly with minimal disruption.

Can TV sound play in other rooms?

Yes. TV audio is usually best handled by Sonos, with a soundbar or Amp at the TV, and you can group it with other rooms when you want the sound to carry through the house.

Will it work with Spotify, Apple Music and AirPlay?

Sonos supports Spotify, Apple Music, AirPlay and most other streaming services natively. A centralised system supports most of these too, but some services may need extra setup or a subscription, so we'll talk through how you listen during the assessment.

Can I mix Sonos with a centralised system?

It's possible, but we generally recommend choosing one approach for the whole home, so every room works the same way.

Which areas do you service?

We're based in Balmain and work across the Inner West, the Lower North Shore, the Eastern Suburbs and the Northern Beaches. If you're elsewhere in Sydney, get in touch and we'll let you know if we can help.
